Frequently asked questions

How do I convert °C to °F?

Multiply by 9, divide by 5 and add 32. So 37 °C is 98.6 °F.

What is a normal body temperature?

Usually about 36.1 to 37.2 °C (97 to 99 °F). It varies through the day and between people.

When is it a fever?

A temperature of 38 °C (100.4 °F) or more is generally considered a fever. Ask a doctor for advice, especially for babies.

Why does the reading depend on where I measure?

Mouth, ear, forehead and armpit readings differ a little. Use the same method each time.

Why is the range limited?

The converter accepts body temperatures from 25 to 45 °C (77 to 113 °F).

Is anything I enter stored or sent?

No. The calculation runs in your browser. Nothing you type is saved or sent to a server.

How it is calculated

°F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32; °C = (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9 (SI Brochure). Normal body temperature varies; a review found an average of about 36.6 °C (Geneva and colleagues, 2019).
